Medicross Paarl is a multi-partner, established practise in the centre of our beautiful town, Paarl. Our practice originated in many of the old Paarl medical practices e.g. my father Dr Lochner Slabbert, started out as a GP in about 1947. We are at present three doctors and include Dr Christelle Hamman and Dr Johan Joubert. We are soon to be joined by Dr Ronelle Le Roux. Together we represent about 100 years of combined experience as general practitioners. We are well equipped and our facility includes a small procedure theatre. In our building, we accommodate the following related professions: A visiting general and plastic surgeon, Pathcare blood taking depo, a heart sonographer, a clinical psychologist, a dietitian, an optician, physiotherapy and a dentist. We charge medical aid rates and we are Designated service providers for Discovery Health. We service the hostel children of Paarl schools including Paarl Gym, Paarl Boishaai and Paarl Girls High.

I, Dr Johann Slabbert, have a special interest in the well being of my male patients. I offer a full yearly evaluation of your health and especially the metabolic threats of modern lifestyle and diet. I fully believe that our diet is too rich in refined sugars and that quality protein and healthy fat has been unnecessarily vilified by mainstream media. Such an evaluation takes about an hour and includes an effort EKG on a bicycle ergometer, body measurements, digital and blood-based prostate evaluation, lung function and all this follows a full metabolic risk profile done on a fasting blood sample taken a day or two before the consultation. Not only is the cholesterol profile assessed but the fractions of your so-called bad and good cholesterol are tested including the genetic-based 'bad' cholesterol.
I fully encourage men from 40years old upwards to start investing in their health to reap the benefits 10 to 20 years and later. Remember, a family history of colon and prostate cancer necessitates this surveillance earlier. Your medical aid should cover most of this examination and a report can be provided to you or your own doctor.
